Head Coach
Roger Plachta will start his eleventh season as Yellowjacket head coach. In his previous ten seasons, Plachta has amassed a record of 209 wins-more wins than any women's coach in Yellowjacket history; he is sixth all time in the WIAC Conference in wins. His team has set 65 team records, A WIAC Western Division Championship (2001), a WIAC Conference Championship (2002), Two WIAC Tournament Championships (2002), (2004), and two NCAA Regional Tournament Appearances.
Coach Plachta was named coach of the year in 2002. He has also coached nineteen WIAC first team All-Conference players and nine WIAC Honorable Mention players. He has also coached eight All-Great Lakes Region Players and Two National Fast pitch Coaches Association All- Americans. In 2010, the Yellowjackets were ranked as high as 24th in the Nation and finished the season with 25 wins and 11 loses.
Coach Plachta is well - known both as a player and a coach. As a player, Roger played on a National Championship team in 1994 for Croix Valley Glass out of Stillwater, Minn. His Interstate Spur team finished runner-up at the 1998 ASA Nationals in Sioux Falls, S.D. Overall, Roger had the opportunity to play in eleven National Tournaments and three World Tournaments. He also played on nine State Championship teams. In 1991 and 1994, Roger was named First Team All-American while playing for Interstate Spur and Croix Valley Glass.
Roger started his coaching career at UW-Superior, from 1982-1985, he was an assistant coach to Dom Moselle and the Yellowjacket baseball program whom Roger had played for in 1980. He also assisted Dr. Russ Smiley with the UW-Superior softball program from 1982-1985. Roger took over the Esko High School Softball program in 1987 were he was voted Region coach of the year six times. Roger won 260 games at Esko, losing 64. The Eskimos won 12 Conference Championships in 14 years, 5 Region Championships and had 5 trips to the State Tournament, capturing the Minnesota State Championship in 1998. Roger coached two High School All-Americans, Danni Catanzirite and Nikki Flynn. In 1995, Roger won the National Girls and Women in Sports Award for breaking barriers and expanding boundaries in women's sports. He was also a finalist for the award in 2001.
Roger is a native of Superior and a graduate of Superior High School. He attended UW-Superior in 1980 and played baseball for the Yellow jackets. Roger has three children Eric, Jamie, and Sarah.
